Retina and Vision¶
Layers of Retina¶
From Chroid to Vitreous Humor
- Pigmented Epithelium Blood- Retina Barrier ,Retinol metabolism for rods
- Cons and rods
- Outer limiting membrane
- outer Nuclear layer(nucleus of Cons and Rods)
- Outer Plexiform layer (axons of Cons/rods and Bipolar neuron's joining)
- Inner Nuclear layer(Cell body of Bipolar neurons)
- Inner Plexiform layer(Bipolar and optic neurons synapse)
- Ganglion cell layer
- Optic nerve fibre layer
- Inner limiting membrane
Special Regions Of Retina¶
- Fovea Centarlis -
- Dimple in macula,only Cones
- Light from Centre of eye falls here, all the Bipolar cells , Ganglian cells are on the side
- So light directly falls on the Cons ,which gives very clear view
Macula Degeneration
Damage to Macula due to UV/Drugs by age, leads to the thickening to Pigmented epithelium Basement membrane which leads to damage of supportive Pigmented Epithelium.
- Optic Disc
- Optic nerve fibres all the Retina leaves the eye into brain , no hole into brain Blind Spot…..
- Also Blood vessels enter to supply and drain Uvea
Classification of Vision¶
Rich in Cones cells ,each Cones have one Ganglion cell body No Rods Need bright Light to see Ex; TExting ,REading a book
- Peripheral Vision
Rich in ROds cells , hinders of rods to one Ganglion Cell Light sensitive Night Vision !!! "Retinal Detachent" Separation Pigmented Epithelium from Neural Epithelium(from Cons/Rods layer)
