Anemia¶
- *** Reduction in the total Mass(volume) of circulating RBC* reduction in Oxygen carrying capacity
How u measure RBC mass of total blood ?¶
- We use Surrogates like HB,MCV,Hct,RBC count
🧠
- HCT - percentage of Rbc in the blood [Ex:45% of RBC , 55% plasma, >1% WBC]
- Hb - percentage of protein (Hemoglobin) per volume [Ex:12.5g/dl]
- MCV(mean cell/Corpuscular volume) - Average size of RBC [Example;80/fl]
- Problems with HB,HCT,Rbc count
- Haemorrhage loss of RBC and fluid but normal HB,HCT in the sample.
- IV infusion increase in plasma HCT,HB,RBC count due to volume change
Anemia based on MCV(Mean size of RBC)¶
