Intubation2

Intubation 2

objectives in Intubation:

  1. Immediate airway control
  2. Induction of unconsciousness
  3. Muscle paralysis

  4. Analgesia and sedation in awake patients

  5. Minimization of adverse physiologic effects of intubation

  6. Systemic hypertension
  7. Intracranial hypertension

  8. Prevention of harm during the post-intubation period

  9. Inadequate sedation
  10. Hemodynamic instability
  11. Oversedation

RSI

  • Sequence of Steps to Quickly intubating a patient

The six “P’s” of airway management are:

  1. Preparation
  2. Gather equipment, assess patient, plan strategy

  3. Preoxygenation

  4. Maximize oxygen reserves before induction

  5. Pretreatment

  6. Administer medications to mitigate adverse physiologic responses

  7. Paralysis and induction

  8. Induce unconsciousness and muscle relaxation

  9. Placement of the tube

  10. Perform intubation and confirm tube position

  11. Postintubation management

  12. Ensure adequate sedation, ventilation, and hemodynamic stability

Pre-treatment before RSI

  • 2 to 5 minutes before induction of unconsciousness or muscular paralysis.
